Serving on a condominium board in Manitoba is both a privilege and a legal responsibility. As a director of a corporation, you are bound by The Condominium Act (Manitoba) to act honestly, in good faith, and in the best interests of all unit owners.

For many condo owners in Manitoba, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) can feel like one of two things: either a necessary formality… or the longest evening of the year.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Fifteen directors serve on our Board of Directors, with each normally serving a three-year term. The terms are staggered so that five are elected by members each year at our Annual General Meeting.

More than 110 attended CCI Manitoba’s Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 24, in the Norwood Hotel to support CCI and network with condo owners, directors and industry professionals.

The offer-to-purchase forms mandated under The Real Estate Services Act for use when selling completed single-family residential homes or units in a condominium are approximately 30 years old.

Manitoba has bucked the national decline in construction activity, showing year-over-year growth led by commercial investments. Residential investment is also expected to rebound this year after several years of declines due to high interest rates.

In May, I had the pleasure of traveling to Waterloo, Ont., along with three other members of the Board of Directors, to attend the CCI National Leaders' Forum, whose theme was Rivers of Opportunity: Steering the Future of the Condo Industry.

This article is a result of some questions posed by a member at our Annual General Meeting in September 2024 and our continuing efforts to identify all of Manitoba’s condominium corporations so we can better serve them. The member asked how many condominium corporations there are in the province and how many of them are members. The member suggested they should all be members; CCI Manitoba strongly agrees. After responding to the initial questions, the member asked why we hadn’t contacted all of the corporations with no prior CCI history and asked them to join.
