Petition Advocating Financial Support for Condominium Corporations

The Canadian Condominium Institute, Manitoba Chapter, is pleased to support Petition e-6709, drafted by Dustin Dilts from Vancouver, B.C., and sponsored in Parliament by Leah Gazan, Member of Parliament for Winnipeg Centre.

Condominium owners and directors across Canada are feeling the heavy impacts of soaring construction costs. Without action, many condo communities will struggle to afford critical repairs needed to keep buildings safe and livable.

That’s why we are strongly supporting Parliamentary Petition e-6709, sponsored by Leah Gazan, Member of Parliament for Winnipeg Centre. This petition calls on the federal government to recognize condominiums in housing programs and provide fair access to financial support for necessary building repairs.

Your voice matters. By adding your name, you’re helping ensure that the concerns of condo owners are heard in Ottawa—and that fair solutions are put in place.

The drafter of the petition has the goal of reaching at least 500 signatures by October 7, 2025. Please take a moment today to sign and share the petition through the links provided. Together, we can make a difference.

This petition highlights the growing challenge faced by condominium owners across Canada. Aging condominium buildings require urgent and costly repairs, yet current federal housing programs—such as the Affordable Housing Fund—do not include condominiums, despite the fact that condos represent 15% of all homes in Canada.

Petition Key Points:

●    Condominium buildings across Canada are facing critical repair needs due to aging building envelopes and structural systems.
●    Escalating construction costs make these repairs unaffordable for many families and individuals.
●    Condominiums are excluded from federal housing repair programs, creating a significant gap in Canada’s housing strategy.

The Petition Calls on the Government of Canada to:

1.    Allow condominium corporations to apply for low-interest government loans for major repairs.
2.    Create support programs—such as grants or low-interest loans—for condo owners facing large special assessments.
3.    Ensure federal housing programs fairly include condominiums as part of Canada’s diverse housing stock.

We encourage all Canadians concerned about fair housing policy to review and consider signing Petition e-6709. This is a critical step toward ensuring condominiums are recognized as an integral part of our national housing strategy.

Together, we can help strengthen and protect the homes of hundreds of thousands of Canadians.
