President's Report - Summer 2025

By John Popowich | Other articles by John Popowich | Regular Column

As we wrap up another successful year at CCI Manitoba, it's a great time to reflect on all we've accomplished — and look ahead to what's coming next. While the Board of Directors will be taking a well-deserved summer break, our committees and executive team will continue their work behind the scenes.

Quiet progress, big impact

Over the past year, much of our work has happened behind the scenes, but its impact is clear. We’ve strengthened the terms of reference for our committees, and now receive regular updates from each chair at every board meeting. Our new Marketing Committee is already full of ideas to launch in the new year, and we’re excited about what’s to come.

Though we said goodbye to a few members, overall membership has grown. The Membership Committee is committed to expanding even further — and with the combined efforts of the Marketing, Membership and Management Advisory committees focused on CCI awareness in Manitoba, the future looks bright.

Building government relationships

In May, Doug Forbes, Kerri Melnyk and I met with Mintu Sandhu, minister of Public Service Delivery for the Province of Manitoba, whose department is responsible for the Condominium Act. Our goal was to introduce the minister and his staff to CCI Manitoba, and we were encouraged by their interest in our work and the issues facing condominium owners in the province.

Duane Rhone and the Government Relations Committee coordinated this valuable meeting and will continue to foster this relationship. Duane hopes to form a working group with the minister’s staff to address needed improvements to the Condominium Act.

We’ve also invited Minister Sandhu to attend our Annual General Meeting, and we hope he will be able to join us.

A year of recognition and events

This past year, all of our committees exceeded expectations — but special congratulations goes to Alan Forbes and the Newsletter Committee he chairs, whose newsletter Condominium News and Views won the National Award for Newsletter of the Year! I had the honour of accepting the award on their behalf at the National Leaders Forum in Waterloo, Ont.

We’re also thrilled about the return of Condos and Cold Ones, an informal networking event for members complete with beverages and appetizers that’s again being organized by Kerri Melnyk, Doug Forbes and Seth Henoch. After last year’s overwhelming success, this year’s event promises to be even better. Stay tuned for more details!

Last year’s AGM was a great success, and we’re excited to build on that momentum. With new positions on the Board of Directors opening up, we’re eager to see who steps forward. If you're interested in joining the board, please let us know — it's a rewarding experience and a great way to build lasting connections in the condominium community.

Shoutout to our chapter administrator

A big thank you to Aesia Desrosiers, our chapter administrator, who keeps everything running smoothly. From organizing committee meetings to welcoming attendees at our lunch & learns, Aesia’s dedication and positivity make a big difference. If you've attended an event, you've probably been greeted by her smile!

See you soon!

Over the past year, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many of our members, and I look forward to continuing those connections. If you see me at an event, please come say hello — even if we’ve already met!

Thank you for your continued support of CCI Manitoba. We hope to see you at Condos and Cold Ones and our Annual General Meeting. Both events offer fantastic opportunities to learn, connect and celebrate our community.

Have a safe and enjoyable summer!

John Popowich is the president of CCI Manitoba and a director of the condo corporation where he lives.
