President and Chapter Report - Winter 2019
By Maureen Hancharyk | Other articles by Maureen Hancharyk | Regular Column
The winter of 2019 will not be easily forgotten, but at least we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The days are getting longer and as I write this report, it is a balmy -15 degrees. Almost shorts weather.
Condominium owners can be grateful that we did not have to shovel all that snow and those that live in condo’s with underground parkades are even more grateful. I’m sure there are many people who are considering purchasing a condo after this winter.
This issue looks ahead to Spring, a busy time for Condominium Boards as they contemplate the many estimates for Spring, parkade cleaning, window cleaning, landscaping and a multitude of other spring cleaning and maintenance jobs that are in need of doing.
CCI, Manitoba Chapter is busy planning the AGM to be held Thursday, September 26, 2019. The AGM planning committee have been meeting for months and there will be many surprises. The event will be held at the Polar Bear exhibit at Assiniboine Zoo. Look for the advertisement in this edition of the newsletter and be sure to mark your calendars.
Another event coming up is the President’s Forum. It will be held on Thursday, April 25th from 7pm to 9pm. You will receive notification in plenty of time to register. This event is open to all Presidents’ of Condominium Board of Directors. In the event that the President is unable to attend, another Director can be designated to attend. If you have not been, I encourage you to attend, as it is very beneficial in helping you, in your role as President.
The CCI National 2019 Spring Leaders’ Forum will be held May 29-June 1, in St. John’s, Newfoundland. The theme is “CCI ROCKS THE ROCK.” Topics include;
- Bullying in Condos
- Dealing with the Aging Population
- The Effects of Climate Change in your Condos
- Cannabis Beyond the Smoke
- Planning for the Unimaginable
As well, there will be a trade show held on the final day of the conference.
The conference is invaluable as participants’ network and get new ideas and information to bring home to their own Chapters. Currently, there are 17 Chapters’ across Canada. Stay tuned for a full report following the conference.
Finally, apologies to Patricia Berry whose name was not included in the last edition of the newsletter. Her name was left off the CCI Board of Directors list due to a printing error.
As well, the last edition was late and some content was missing. We are very proud of our newsletter and hope that we will do better in the future. We know that many of you appreciate the newsletter and we are confident we will continue to produce a high quality publication. Hats off to the newsletter committee.
So, until next time, enjoy the longer days and look forward to Spring. It always comes but sometimes not soon enough.
MAUREEN HANCHARYK, President
Manitoba Chapter
